The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Coaching and Education programme continues today
after a short break and according to Territorial Development Officer (TDO) Colin Stuart, emphasis will be placed on two areas; Scotiabank Kiddy and Grassroots cricket.
He told Kaieteur Sport yesterday after an interactive session with several coaches at the GCB office that the Scotiabank curriculum will be centered on training activities involving the qualifying schools from the preliminary round of the County festival.
Stuart, a former West Indies fast bowler informed that the Bartica and Upper Demerara zones are yet to be played and will commence shortly. He stated that coaching clinics will be conducted during the upcoming August holidays in the respective zones which will be followed by progression one cricket where conventional rules will be used.
The TDO explained that the Grassroots programme will continue to focus on new and emerging players and an elite cluster of cricketers within a specified location will be selected for error detection and correction. He indicated that this programme is very important because it helps to prepare the players for schools tournament and they are also being recommenced to clubs.
Stuart pointed out that he is satisfied with the first part of the Scotiabank programme in 2014. “We were able to identify the areas that needed to be developed so that it can be more effective. We are also pleased with the publicity”, he added.
“The young players were thought what is required at the higher level as it relates to physical and mental fitness”, Stuart related.
