A Corentyne woman says she is wondering what she has to do next to get some justice after being constantly harassed and beaten by a neighbour who seems to be well connected.
Jhankie Rambahadur, the alleged victim, claims that she has reported her neighbour to police and other legal officials, only to have her cries for justice ignored.
Rambahadur, a mother of seven of Rose Hall Town, stated that her ordeal started in 2006. The woman who worked as a sales representative and a home maker has had to quit her job due to the constant harassment of a neighbour.
But she says her main concern is the lack of support from the relevant authorities.
She said that for some strange reasons her neighbour started to attack her and despite her numerous complaints she has had no reprieve. She and her family have been at the receiving end of constant abuse of all sorts. She has been beaten, abused, her house pelted, windows broken, hauled before the courts, feces thrown into her yard, underwear displayed where she has to dwell and shown nude signs. What is hurtful too is that her family has not been spared of the ordeal.
Mrs Rambadahur is also accusing the police of neglecting their duties. She said that the police have visited on a few occasions, but her neighbour has not stopped the harassment. In fact she stated that the situation has gotten worse. What is also heartrending for the woman and her family is that her neighbour would boast of her “connections”.
The woman, in tears said that she is becoming desperate and is wondering where else in Guyana can she can turn for help. She said that she is being pushed in a corner and may eventually have to defend herself and family.
