After an exciting first round of matches, the Banks DIH-sponsored Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal Competition has reached the quarter-final and semi-final stages which will be played this evening at the Haslington Market Square.
In the opening encounter, Paradise who registered a narrow 1-0 win over Ann’s Grove Punters will be looking to produce a more convincing performance against last year’s beaten finalist Victoria Church Yard United.
Keyron Johnson and Nicholas Holder, goalscorers for Victoria Church Yard United in their opening clash against Vryhied’s Lust will once again be aiming to lead their team into the next round.
In the next encounter, Melanie ‘A’ tackle Beterverwagting ‘B’ and this game is a hard one to call since both teams received walkovers on the first night of action.
The third game of the night pits defending champions Plaisance versus BV ‘B’ and this promises to be a scorching affair with revenge uppermost in the minds of Plaisance who watched their ‘B’ counterparts get eliminated by BV ‘B’.
The reigning title holders will be relying on livewire Warren Gilkes to lead them across the line, while BV ‘B’ will look to the prolific Edun Fraser, who netted both of their goals against Plaisance ‘B’ to ensure victory.
The final quarter-final match is between Melanie ‘B’ and Victoria Eagles.
Melanie ‘B’ held their nerves to pip Buxton ‘A’ 2-1 in a penalty shootout after they remained scoreless when regulation time ended , while the Eagles were called upon to display similar steel nerves to boot out a stubborn Golden Grove Superstars after a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time.
The winners will all advance to the semi-finals which will be played tonight as well.
The fixtures are as follows:
18:00 hrs Paradise versus Victoria Church Yard United
18:30 hrs Melanie ‘A’ vs. BV ‘A’
19:00 hrs Plaisance vs. BV ‘B’
19:30 hrs Melanie ‘B’ vs. Victoria Eagles.
