The Haslington Market Square will come alive tonight when the East Coast segment of the Banks DIH-sponsored Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal Competition opens with eight matches, commencing from 18:00 hrs.
The first two teams to kick off the tournament are defending champions Plaisance and Nabaclis and right away fans will have the opportunity to see the East Coast kings in action.
According to a member of the Organising Committee, while Plaisance is usually a potent force in the Futsal format, all the teams have been busy honing their skills to near perfection and predicting a winner seems to be a difficult task.
The official admitted that from feedback received this year’s competition even though it has been shortened to just three days will provide exhilarating action for futsal fans who are being urged to get to the venue early to get the best vantage point.
“We are expecting three days of frenetic action, the teams have been preparing with intensity and I can assure fans that they will not be disappointed with the skills and standard that will be on display.”
He said all 16 teams feel that they have a good chance of representing the East Coast in the national playoffs so in addition to bragging rights for being the East Coast champions, there is the possibility of the winner going all the way to the Caribbean Tournament slated for Trinidad and Tobago if they are crowned national champions.
