The Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) has named a strong 8-man team with one standby shooter for the Long and Short Range matches at the 2014 edition of the West Indies Fullbore Rifle Shooting championships underway in Jamaica at the Twickenham Ranges.
With the conclusion of the Individual Championship yesterday, which saw Lennox Braithwaite retaining the crown, the Guyanese selection panel met last evening to name the team that will contest the Long and Short Range matches which will start with the Long Range clash today.
Guyana are defending champions and National Captain Mahendra Persaud will lead his charges into battle confident of not only retaining the Milex Cup, but will also be gunning to re-claim the Short Range Cup when the nations face off tomorrow.
Persaud will be supported by Vice Captain Dylan Fields, Lennox Braithwaite, Ransford Goodluck, Leo Ramalho, Sigmund Douglas, Ryan Sampson and debutant, Sherwin Felicien. John Fraser has been named as standby.
The area of Coaching is handled by the very experienced Persaud, Goodluck, Braithwaite, Fields, Dane Blair and Paul Slowe all combining their expertise for the Guyanese.
The Long Range match will be contested over 900 and 1000 yards, while tomorrow’s Short Range match will see the shooters facing off at the 300, 500 and 600 yards ranges.
Host nation Jamaica, Guyana, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Bermuda and Canada are competing.
