A Toshao of a Region One Village has reportedly confessed to raping and impregnating his 10-year-old daughter.
Kaieteur News understands that the girl was taken to the area hospital after she fell ill. At the hospital, it was revealed that the child is four months pregnant.
Medical inspections indicate that the child was sexually active and “it wasn’t a one-time act”.
A source told Kaieteur News “the child has been having regular sex, but it is only because she got pregnant the village now knows about it”.
The source added that incest is common in the village. “They would drink, get drunk, and go have sex with their relatives and those that born and grow into it don’t even know that it is wrong. Many children in this area don’t even go to school; it is a disgusting situation.”
This publication was told that the child is still hospitalised. However, a child care official says that the child is in protective custody.
Police sources indicated that the Toshao has since been arrested and remains in custody. He is expected to be charged today and eventually placed before the court.
