Regal have secured their places in the Open and Masters Final of the inaugural Georgetown Softball Cricket League (GSCL Inc) / National Sports Commission Independence Cup after recording semi final victories yesterday.
Regal defeated Speed Boat by six wickets in the open semi final at the Everest Cricket Club. Batting first, Speed Boat managed 174 all out in 19.4 overs. Anand Bharat top scored with 66 while Ganesh Narine made 24. Lakeram Roopnarine grabbed 3-25, Safraz Esau 2-24 and Roopesh Motilall 2-42. Regal replied with 175-4 in 15 overs. Navin Singh stroked 74 and Patrick Rooplall 27.
Memorex overcame Trophy Stall by three runs in the second semi final at St. Stanislaus ground. Memorex rattled up 221-7 in 20 overs batting first. Balram Samaroo slammed 53; Roy Jafferally scored 50 and Vishal Phillips 42.
Fazal Rafiek claimed 3-47 and K. Bissoondyal 2-39. Trophy Stall were restricted to 218-9 in 20 overs in response. Rafiek made 38, R. Ramnauth 32 and K. Bissoondyal 21. Phillips captured 3-30 and J. Percival 2-20.
In the Masters semis, Regal thumped Floodlight by five wickets. Floodlight posted 183 all out in 20 overs after taking first strike at Everest. Greg De Franca cracked 92 and Wayne Jones 21. Clyde Butts snared 3-22, Troy Kippins 2-17 and Mahendra Arjune 2-47. Regal replied with 184-5 in 19.1 overs. Eric Thomas scored 41, Yunnis Yussuf 39, Arjune 35 and Eon Abel 23.
Frontline got past Industry Super Kings by 13 runs in the second semi final at the said venue. Frontline batted first and were all out for 156 in 19.3 overs. Ramo Malone smashed 42 while Sheik Mohamed supported with 38 and Shawn Massiah 24. Fazleem Mohamed and J. Persaud picked up three wickets apiece.
Industry Super Kings were sent packing for 143 in 18.1 overs in reply. Mohamed scored 51; Ryan Singh and D. Mohabir took three wickets each. Regal Champs and Mike’s Wellwoman advanced to semi finals in the female segment.
Competing in their Group ‘B’ encounter at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation ground. Regal Champs lost to Wellwoman by seven wickets. Regal Champs took first strike and posted 66 for 7 off their 10 overs. Nalini Sumintra made 20 and Mathura Cambridge 14; Haseena Mohammed and S. Davenanda who took two wickets each for 10 runs and Alicia Bobb-Semple 2 for 11.
In reply, Mike’s Wellwoman reached 67 for 6 from 9.3 overs, led by Abena Parker 15, Joann Van Sertima 14 and 13 from Bobb-Semple, while Akaze Thompson took 3 for 7. In their second game of the day against Blue Angels, Regal Champs who needed a win to keep their semifinal hopes alive, restricted their opponents to 62 for 5 from their 10 overs, with Galon Stanford top scoring with 21 (3×4).
Tana Cambridge took 2 for 11 for Regal Champs, who reached 64 for 4 in 6.4 overs in reply. Sumintra scored an unbeaten 22 Natasha Daniels 18. Sandika Sawh captured 3 for 12. Blue Angels went down to Trophy Stall Angels by seven wickets in their encounter.
Blue Angels made 87-3 in 10 overs taking first strike with Lisa Gilkes scoring 45. Mike’s Wellwoman scored 89-3 in 7.4 overs in reply. Abena Parker stroked 25, Zola Telford and Shemella Chichater assisted with 16 apiece.
In today’s semifinal, Regal Champs will take on Trophy Stall Angels who topped their group on Saturday, while Mike’s Wellwoman will do battle with Karibee Strikers. All matches will be played at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
Meanwhile, in the final preliminary round games, Floodlight thrashed Enterprise Legends by 247 runs in the open category. Batting first, Floodlight piled up 293-3 in 20 overs. M. Samlall scored 87 not out, I. Sumair 77 and Greg De France 75. Enterprise Legends were skittled for 46 in 9 overs in reply. Wayne Jones claimed 3-20.
In the open division, Speed Boat hammered Karibee Boyz by 185 runs. Speed Boat took first strike and scored 363-3 in 20 overs. Greg Singh belted 205 (7×4 28×6) and Wazir Hussain made 34; Imran Hussain took 2-48. Karibee Boyz replied with 178 all out in 15.1 overs.
J. Mohamed slammed 80. Shazim Hussain picked up 4-12, Arvin Seepersaud 2-43 and Peter Alleyne 2-43. The competition concludes today at Everest.
