– “He was going to look for a job”- wife

A 29-year-old pedal cyclist died at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) around 09:30 hrs yesterday, minutes after he was struck down by a car along the Goedverwagting Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The dead man has been identified as Wayne Giddings, a mason, of Lot 69 Sparendaam Housing Scheme, ECD.
In a release, police said that they are conducting investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of Giddings, who was struck down by a motor vehicle along the Goedverwagting Railway Embankment early yesterday.
According to the police, investigations have so far revealed that Giddings rode out from behind a minibus, into the path of the oncoming motor vehicle and was struck down.
Kaieteur News understands that the father of three got up and ran away from the scene, but collapsed a short distance away. The driver made a report at the Sparendaam Police Station after which ranks went to the scene and found Giddings lying on a street in Goedverwagting.
At the GPHC yesterday, relatives of the dead man were heard crying and screaming from a distance.
His reputed wife, Philliemina Himchand told this publication that around 08:30 hrs, the father of her three children left home in search of a job.
“He didn’t tell me where he was going, he just say that he going to look for a job and that he coming back just now,” a teary Himchand recalled.
The woman further related that about 15 minutes after Giddings left home, her neighbour called and informed her that he had met with an accident.
“She (neighbour) called me and said that she husband went dropping off a passenger and he see Giddings lying on the road. She say that it aint look like anything serious and that he hand look like it break,” the wife said.
She further related that about five minutes later, she received another call informing her that her husband had run away from the accident scene.
“I take a taxi and I went and search for him. I went to where the accident happened and then people show me where he run and when I reach there, I see him lying,” Himchand recalled.
Kaieteur News was told that Giddings was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood with his right hand partly severed and blood “flowing” from his head.
Himchand said that she put her partner in a taxi and took him to the hospital.
“He died like five minutes after he went in the hospital,” the woman noted.
Giddings leaves to mourn his mother, siblings, wife and three children; seven-year-old Zyana, four-year-old Dyana and two-year-old David.
