Dream Team and Assassin drew the bye to the semi-finals when the Orin Joseph memorial million dollars nationwide dominoes continued on Saturday night last at the National Gymnasium. TNT, Scramblers and Determine were the teams battling in the last quarterfinal round.
Meanwhile, teams were engaged in a march past on Friday evening last which was taken by Deputy Mayor of Georgetown Patricia Chase and president of the Georgetown
Dominoes Association (GDA) Faye Joseph before the playoffs commenced. Speaking at the ceremony Joseph welcomed the out of town sides and said she is happy to see so many teams in the tournament. She indicated that next year competition will be bigger and better and wished the teams well.
Joseph informed that Guyana will be aiming to win the World Council Dominoes tournament which will be played in Barbados in August and trials will be held shortly to select the national team. Joseph stated that she is pleased that dominoes is on the rise locally.
Blue Bird received $30,000 for being adjudged the best dress team while runner up Double Deuce pocketed $15,000.
The winning team will take home $500,000 and a trophy, the runner up $300,000 and a trophy, third place $100,000 and a trophy, fourth place $60,000 and a trophy. The most valuable players (male and female) will be given $7,500 each and the player that shared the first double love $5,000.
