When competition at the XXIX CARIFTA Swimming, Synchronized Swimming and Open Water Swimming Championships continues at the Pisina Olimpico Roly Bisslik, Savaneta, Aruba, today, the third day of competition, only Britany van Lange will be in action.
She will be competing in the 100m freestyle event. Tomorrow, the final day, both van Lange and Soroya Simmons will be competing, both will aim for improved times in the 50m freestyle, while Simmons will also seek glory in the 200m
backstroke.
On day one, Tuesday, Simmons achieved a PB in the girls 15-17 50m backstroke, starting off seeded 15th of 16 swimmers with a seed time of 35.08, she placed 12th in 34.58; Trinidad and Tobago’s Kristin Julien won the event in 30.86 with Jamaican Danielle Boothe second (31.27) second and Surinamese Brienne Renfurm (31.70), third.
On day two, yesterday, van Lange placed 12th of 13 swimmers in the 15-17 girls 200m free in 2:23.11, the race was won by Joanna Evans of the Bahamas in 2:1040 who was followed by Jamaica’s Michelle Dols (2:11.25) and Daniell Van den Berg of Aruba in 2:11.37.
In the 50m fly, van Lange ended 14 of 16 with a time of 32.29; T&T’s Julien also won this event in 29.67.
Seeded last in the 100m back, Simmons put that aside to shave 3 seconds off her previous best of 1:16.91 to clock 1:13.71. Boothe of Jamaica took this event in 1:07.14.
