Receives uniform from Poonai’s Pharmacy
The Port Mourant Training School Volleyball team, which is one of the top Volleyball teams in Guyana and the top team in Berbice, left Guyana on Thursday to participate in the Players League 4 Caribbean Club Championships at Chaguanas in neighbouring Trinidad & Tobago that is underway from April 18th to 21st.
Before departing Guyana, the team which is being coached by National Coach Levi Nedd and was encamped at the National Gymnasium in Georgetown, were presented with a set of uniforms by popular businessman Poonai Bhigroog of Poonai’s Pharmacy, Rose Hall Town.
At a simple presentation ceremony which was held in front of Poonai’s Pharmacy, the uniforms were presented by Mr. Bhigroog to Quacy Matheson in the presence of other teammates and the businessman son.
The businessman, who also serves as the Vice President of the BVA and the Chairman of the Berbice Regional Health Authority, urged the team to give of its best and promised that next time around the donation will be doubled if they return with the Championship Trophy.
Matheson, who is the star spiker of the team, expressed gratitude on behalf of the team and said they will give of their best to be successful.
PMTC 1 were specially invited to participate by the Trinidad & Tobago Volleyball Federation for the third successive year although Guyana is not a member of CAZOVA (Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association).
PMTC 1 is made up of current and former students of the Port Mourant Apprentice Training Centre and has a number of current and former National Under-19 Players. The squad – Quacy Matheson, Creston Rodney, Beepaul Bandoo, Ian Bagot, Luen David, Adriel Moore, Akeem Bowling, Shemroy Ross, Stephen Veerapen, Trevlon McRae, Rashaad Razack, Madan Budram, Jason Seelochan, Devendra Latchman and Narad Rengasammy.
The team is also being accompanied by Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) President, Gregory Rambarran. (Samuel Whyte)
