The Country’s Race Walkers will be in action on Sunday when the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club stages its ‘Road to Brazil’ Race Walk commencing 06:30hrs at the Guyana School of Agriculture, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, proceeding to the Road Head and returning to the place of origin for the finish.
Trophies, Medals and other prizes will be at stake for the top three finishers in the Male and Female (seniors), Juniors, Veterans and Differently Abled participants.
Public Service Minister, Dr Jennifer Westford, MP, the Guyana Tourism Authority and E.A Consultants have already donated trophies for the event.
CSTU’s Coordinator, Ms Jennifer Major pointed out that the Club has intensified the staging of Races countrywide as well as training sessions with an aim of moulding a National Race Walk team for participation in the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
Ms Major announced that a number of Races will be run off next month starting on Sunday, April 13, with a 10K around the National Park, Thomas Lands, on Easter Sunday, April 20, another 10K around the Silvertown All Stars at Wismar.
On Sunday, April 27, the Linden Town Week 2014 Race will be staged starting at 06:30hrs at the Amelia’s Ward junction and proceeding to the Egbert Benjamin Centre, Republic Avenue, McKenzie, Linden for the finish.
