– players to complete teams roster for pulsating final
The Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) have released Dwayne ‘Sugar’ Roberts and Rudy James ahead of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) National Division I Club Championship Final tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson
Sports Hall.
Roberts and James were uncertain whether they will feature on the rosters of finalists, Linden’s Retrieve Raiders and Georgetown’s Dyna’s Ravens respectively, in the biggest club competition to be held in Guyana in the New Millennium.
But following the intervention of the GABF and Kaieteur Sport’s article on the subject, GGMC have given permission for both players to abort operations in Guyana’s interior to join their team before the occasion that will decide the best club in the country.
Tomorrow nights Grand Finale is also the last pit stop on the ‘Road to Mecca’, the official name of the tournament, before a shortlist of players to represent Guyana at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championships surfaces within coming weeks.
Raiders’ centre/forward, Roberts and Ravens’ forward, James are key additions to both sides for tomorrow night’s game. Most likely James will be tasked with the difficult job of defending the ‘big man’, Roberts, who has a whopping 20 rebounds and 21 points for a double-double in the last game he played for the team in the quarterfinals.
No doubt the presence of both players make for an intriguing final since Raiders got to the mark without Roberts last weekend. The strength they will add to both teams increases the likelihood of a pulsating contest for the most coveted basketball club title.
