Following an injunction that prevented the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) from holding their Annual General Meeting which was scheduled for February 19 at Malteenoes Sports Club, the GCA was ordered by the High Court on Thursday last to hold a Special General Meeting to decide on the way forward including setting a date for the AGM.
The injunction was obtained by Nazimul Drepaul, a life member of Everest Cricket Club from the High Court of the Supreme Court of Judicature. Some of the grounds on which the injunction was filed included, a declaration that the resolution purportedly passed by the GCA at their AGM in January 2012 which is to extend the term of office for the president to two years to be null and void. That the notice of the 2014 AGM of the GCA published in Guyana Chronicle on January 17 for the meeting is contrary to the constitution.
This is the latest chapter in the saga of problems troubling local cricket. It is hoped that good sense can prevail and a speedy resolution be met to see the game free of the prevailing problems.
