Come Saturday, the air that travels through the National Park Tarmac is expected to be filled with the smell of burning tyres as competitors try to outdo each other in a battle for supremacy when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) stages its Dexterity Meet.
This form of racing is returning after a prolonged absence and the organisers are anticipating a large turnout and a show of daredevilry among the competitors as they showcase their skills and stunts in front of fans.
According to one official,” you don’t have to have a racecar to participate, so I’m encouraging drivers of normal vehicles to come out and be part of the day’s activities as we attempt to bring racing back to Georgetown.”
The obstacle course is anticipated to be challenging and exciting and fans will be given the opportunity to register and participate in the competition which will see an elimination process used as the format to determine the finalists.
“One car will be allowed at a time and you will be racing against the clock and your time will be taken to see who does it the fastest. The first 20 vehicles move on to the other round to another elimination where a new course will be implemented,” he outlined.
According to him, the event will test maximum skill of acceleration, braking and turning and the driver and car should become one and be able to move through the course as quickly as possible.
He added that to participate in the event, a driver doesn’t need a specially built race car just the requisite skills.
The official added that the event is also aimed at providing entertainment for the family, while seeking to attract a new cadre of racers to the sport.
