20-year-old Veronica Francis was reminded that even in the most trying circumstances there are still people who are willing to be that shoulder you can lean on.
Francis who is a resident of Mahdia, Region Eight (Potaro –Siparuni) and was pregnant at the time, was referred by the Mahdia Hospital for further assessment at the Georgetown Hospital. Though in serious pain, she managed to board a plane and got to the Public Hospital. She stayed at the Hospital for several days but was discharged yesterday. At the Hospital she gave birth to her bundle of joy, Charles Francis. Little Francis is now five days old. But this young woman was found in a most worrying position yesterday morning as she had no relatives or friends in Georgetown and hadn’t any money at the time. Knowing of her situation, hospital authorities stepped in and contacted officials at Air Services Limited for assistance. Thankfully, the thoughtful management of Air Services Limited offered to give her and her baby boy a free flight so that they can be reunited with their family and friends at home.
The Air Services representative Acklema Singh who checked her in expressed that management was happy to assist the mother and her new born and wished them a safe journey.
In addition to the free flight, Francis was presented with a most generous baby hamper, which included some of the basic necessities a mother and her baby would need. The woman who presented the hamper is a Secretary attached to a hospital in Brooklyn, New York.
