– Work scheduled to commence in first quarter of 2014
Reconstruction of the Kitty Post Office is scheduled to begin within the first quarter of this year.
Post Master General, Henry Dundas explained that a step by step procedure has been implemented by the administration for the commencement of work on the Post Office.
Dundas revealed that the rebuilding of the Kitty Post Office is high on the 2014 agenda of GPOC.
“The building that houses the operations of the Kitty Post Office located at Alexander and Pike Streets has been in a state of disrepair for a while now. We have advertised for persons interested in the sale and removal of the current building but the plan is moving gradually along. We want to start work in the first quarter.”
Dundas said that “people have since expressed their interest in purchasing and demolishing the building, to make way for us to erect a spanking new concrete structure.”
While reconstruction of the building is pending, residents of Kitty and its environs had expressed concerns over losing the mailing service.
However, Dundas said that although the service will be temporarily displaced, alternative accommodation will be in place.
“We have enough space at our main office to assist in accommodating the mailing service … the Campbellville Post Office and the East La Penitence Post Office are listed as convenient spots for alternative accommodations.”
Dundas revealed that plans for the renovation of the Post Office headquarters are on schedule.
“We also want to improve the general operating standards of the post office, therefore we will paint and renovate our main office to enhance the physical environment for persons who wish to conduct their postal transactions here.”
