Play opening game in Jamaica from Feb 28
By Sean Devers in Trinidad
After falling at the semi-final stage of the Regional 50 overs competition in Trinidad and Tobago, the focus for the Guyana team now shifts to the First Class season which will see them playing six matches, including two Day/Night games to be played with pink balls.
In 2010 pink balls were used for the first time in West Indies first Class cricket and Guyana opposed Trinidad and Tobago in the inaugural day/night four-day under lights in Antigua. However, the concept was shelved until this year when each team will have two day/night games.
The Guyana four-day squad will soon be announced and Guyana are scheduled to play three away and three home matches including one under lights at Providence.
Guyana have not won a regional first class tournament since 1998 and the South Americans play their first game against host Jamaica from February 28-March 3.
They then return home to face Barbados in a day/night game at Providence before facing the Windward Islands at the same venue.
The Guyanese then travel to Barbados where they face CCC in another day/night clash at the 3Ws Oval at Cave Hill before facing the Leeward Islands in the Leewards. They round off the preliminary round with a home game against Trinidad and Tobago at Providence.
