– fast bowlers, spinners, batters and wicketkeepers to benefit
Conscious of the fact that training and retraining are vital for the sustenance and development of any entity or sport, the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) has continued to invest in this regard to ensure it is always ahead of the game.
The most vibrant board has yet again shown vision in investing at the grassroots level. Yesterday in the Board Room of Hand in Hand Group of Companies, Avenue of the Republic, the BCB and USA based cosmetic company, Elizabeth Styles shared details of their Countywide Coaching Programme that will see junior players benefitting from six clinics.
In sharing details, Hilbert Foster, Chairman of the BCB Special Events Committee informed that the clinics will target fast bowlers, spinners, batters and wicketkeepers.
“The fast bowlers and batsmen will be involved in two clinics as we seek to make sure that every Berbice player is not only properly prepared but fully understands their role as sports ambassadors.”
The coaching pool in charge includes senior Coach Michael Hyles Franco, Albert Smith and Winston Smith.
It was reported that each session will cost $40,000. The BCB stated that over the past seven years they have been proactive in the area of coaching and this year will be no different. The annual academy as well as the junior elite and senior elite training programmes along with coaching in every zone of the Ancient County will be conducted.
Emphasis on developing rounded ambassadors will be paramount Foster disclosed. Representing Elizabeth Styles was Mr. Bissoondial Singh who complimented the BCB for the work they have been doing without rest.
Singh noted that Elizabeth Styles, a USA based company that produces hair care products and cosmetics was again pleased to be on board with the BCB for this coaching programme, pointing out that it is their intention to continue working towards the development of the game not only in Berbice but Demerara and Essequibo.
This year, the BCB would be celebrating its 75th anniversary and a number of activities year round will be held to observe this milestone.
Over 600 programmes and activities have been accomplished by the BCB over the past seven years, a record the BCB says it is proud of. Gratitude was extended to Singh and Elizabeth Styles by Foster, pointing out that it is his hope that the young players will appreciate the investment they are making in their careers and future, challenging the players to make full use of it.
