Three Brazilian men allegedly trying to commit a robbery at a Lethem haberdashery store were last evening nabbed by police ranks at the Guyana-Brazil border, moments after they fled from the Chinese-owned establishment.
Kaieteur News has been reliably informed that the incident occurred between 18:00 and 18:30 hours yesterday when three men entered Pacifico, located on Barrack Retreat, Central Rupununi Commercial Zone armed with handguns.
The source said that as the owner noticed the armed men, he quickly called the Lethem Police Station to report that he was about to be robbed. As soon as the men realised that a call had been made, they reportedly scurried off towards the border. However, they were soon cornered as the police ranks notified the access road complex which is usually manned by custom officers and law enforcement officers.
A road block was reportedly set up at the border and the men were apprehended and taken to the police station.
The source added that an Identification Parade was conducted where they were fingered out by the store owner as the men who tried to rob his store. They are currently in custody assisting with investigations.
