Parika Defenders of East Bank Essequibo defeated the visiting Minymika Cricket Club of Suriname in a 10 overs softball cricket match on Sunday at the Everest Cricket Club. The game was arranged to mark the opening of activities to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Everest Cricket Club.
Parika Defenders batted first after winning the toss in front of a fair size crowd. Asif Ahmad and Ramesh Rambharose came together after their team lost an early wicket and added 98 for the second wicket. Ahmad top scored with a well played 76 which contained eight sixes and four fours, while Rambharose made 23 with one six and one four as their team posted 131-3 off their allotted overs. Raj Nagpal claimed 2-35 and Ryan Dial 1-33.
The visitors started off their reply in positive fashion with former Essequibo batsman Mohindra Boodram and Vishwar Shaw putting together 56 for the opening stand before Shaw was taken at long on off Omesh Pharbhu for 23 (4×4).
Minymika CC then lost two more quick wickets but Boodram and Balkaran Mohan took the score to 96 with sensible batting to give their team hope. Pharbu then removed Boodram for 40 (3×4,1×6) as the visiting team ended on 131-4 in 10 overs. Mohan was left unbeaten on 18; Pharbhu finished with 2-15.
In the super over that followed Minymika CC batted first and could only muster 4 runs to which Parika Defenders replied with 6.
