Angry residents of “C” Field Sophia yesterday confronted a drunken police officer and his passenger after he veered off the community road and crashed his speeding car,PLL7698, into a fence near the neighbourhood health centre.
Residents reportedly went into a panic when the vehicle’s occupants exited the car exposing a bullet proof vest. But panic reportedly turned to rage after the driver became abusive.
The residents said that they also realized that the vehicles occupants were intoxicated when several Guinness bottles were tossed out of the vehicle and the passenger exited with a beverage in hand.
A female resident said that she had crossed the “C” Field access road and was going over to another street when she saw the vehicle veering off the access road and heading towards her.
The woman said she was holding a child when the vehicle almost slammed into her.
“I see the car come with one speed and I reach till in de bush,” she told this newspaper.
One woman said that the car destroyed her fence and the residents requested that a breathalyzer test be done by ranks who arrived on the scene.
The driver and his occupant were placed in the police tow truck before the wrecked car was removed.
