A teenager who identified himself as a Western Union security guard was yesterday sentenced to forty eight months imprisonment by Magistrate Fabayo Azore after he confessed to carrying out a $2M armed robbery on a city electronic store.
Yesterday, 19-year-old Travis Evans of Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to three counts of armed robbery.
The case presented, highlighted that on January 13, Evans, armed himself with a gun and ventured into Wireless City International, located on D’urban Street and proceeded to rob two people.
Assistant Superintendant of Police, Deneashwar Maindranauth, who prosecuted the matter, said that the youngster held up the store clerk Nerissa Grannum and customer, Troy Peters, and robbed them of a quantity of items.
Maindranauth said that he relieved the customer of one $75,000 wrist watch, a $130,000 Samsung Galaxy, one BlackBerry Curve, valued at $30,000 and two gold rings valued at $280,000.
Evans allegedly robbed the clerk of a $350,000 Samsung laptop, a $75,000 Apple I-Pod, one $45,000 BlackBerry cellular phone, a $1500 shoulder bag and $65,000 cash.
He additionally robbed the store of 4 Samsung Galaxy cellular phones, 11 tablets, seven tablet cases, one wireless keyboard and 3 cellular phone batteries; all to the value of $920,000.
After collecting the items, he reportedly escaped, but, acting on information, was later apprehended at Le Repentir Cemetery. Subsequent investigations were conducted and the charges were instituted against him.
After listening to the prosecution’s facts, the Magistrate stated that she considered that he had not wasted the court’s time and sentenced him to 48 months imprisonment.
