The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) has warned customers to beware of “phishing” messages on the internet.
According to the bank, there has been a recent upsurge of phishing messages being circulated.
“Phishing messages are messages forwarded via email purporting to represent an organization, in this case GBTI, requesting customers to provide private and confidential information and or threatening serious consequences if you do not log in and take action immediately.”
The bank urged customers not to click on links with any such emails.
“GBTI will never send you emails or make unsolicited phone calls, requesting your online password, access codes or other sensitive data. You must always ensure that you first log on to our website, www.gbtibank.com before proceeding to sign on to our GBTI Direct Bank services.”
