A mixed 12 – member jury has been sworn before Georgetown Supreme Court Judge Navindra Singh, for the commencement of the trial into the unlawful killing of US based Guyanese businessman, Richardo Hendriques, of which two persons are jointly accused.
On trial for the murder are Junior Henry and his alleged accomplice, Baldeo Seegobin. The duo was jointly charged with the capital offence in November of 2008.
The accused, who are both from West Ruimveldt, appeared at the Georgetown Supreme Court yesterday.
The men, who had pleaded not guilty to the allegation, are being represented by Attorneys- at- law, Basil Williams and Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos. Attorneys- at- law, Dhanika Singh and Mercedes Thompson will be appearing on behalf of the State in the trial.
On November 24, 2008, Hendriques, a thirty one year -old, New York based businessman was reportedly shot in the head at point blank range during a robbery which occurred just outside a Guyana Lottery Company booth on Middle Street, near Juice Power and Water World.
The bandits reportedly escaped on a motorcycle with an undisclosed sum of cash.
The victim, a father of two and wholesaler, originally from D’Urban Street Werk- en-Rust, was taken to the Georgetown Public hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
