– short listing to begin soon
The names of about 20 candidates have been submitted to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for the post of Commissioners of the Public Procurement Commission.
Several discussions were held by the PAC during last year which spoke to the establishment of the Commission and the appointment of its five Commissioners.
An advertisement was placed in the newspapers which sought to invite submissions for the position.
The notification had outlined the necessary requirements that were expected of applicants.
The decision to accept submissions from the public arose from the People’s Progressive Party’s (PPP) refusal to make their submissions for suitable applicants for the post.
The decision was also agreed upon as it widened the pool of options from which the Committee will choose.
The PPP/C is withholding the names of its nominees since the injection of their “no-objection clause” was met with strong opposition, especially from the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Carl Greenidge.
Discussions on the names submitted thus far will begin soon and the Committee is expected to start identifying its prospective candidates for their short list by January 27.
