Following the conclusion of the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday last which saw former National player Nigel Hinds emerging as President, winning from Michael Singh, who is now a Vice President, the duo is embarking on a mission to take the sport to new heights.
Hinds and Singh will represent Guyana at tomorrow’s Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Congress which would be held at the Verdanza Hotel, San Juan, Puerto Rico; both officials are paying their own way.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport, Hinds said that at that forum they will be briefed on the agenda for basketball over the next four years as many changes are taking place in the processes and structure of participation in events under the patronage of FIBA, which is the world governing body, particularly at both the Senior and Junior levels.
Hinds further stated that he would also be participating in the elections of the new executive of the CBC (2014 – 2018).
“We will also be offering to host the junior CBC Southern bracket competition which comprises teams from Aruba, Trinidad & Tobago, Suriname and Guyana. This is scheduled for August of this year.”
The new GABF executive has also dispatched letters to Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport – Dr. Frank Anthony, President of the Guyana Olympic Association – K. A. Juman Yassin, Director of Sport – Mr. Neil Kumar, Presidential Advisor on the Finance Committee – Mr. Keith Burrowes, Minister of Education – Honorable Ms. Priya Manickchand, Chief Education Officer – Mr. Olato Sam, Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC) – Mr. Conrad Plummer and Chairman of the Finance Committee of the NSC – Mr. Paul Abdool introducing the new executive, while seeking their support and assistance towards the development of the sport in Guyana.
