– Bullet passes through left thigh, lodged in right
Ian Poon, a farmer and chainsaw operator of Canal Bank Port Kaituma, Region One, was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) last Friday with a gunshot wound after walking into a gun-trap.
The 37-year-old father of six was first shot in the left leg, with the bullet passing through that limb and striking and shattering his right leg.
His right leg is currently fixed in a brace.
Kaieteur News was told that Poon and a friend were heading to a back dam with a chainsaw to cut logs when he heard an explosion and fell to the ground. It was only after checking himself that he became aware of his wounds. He added that he has no idea where the shot came from and at the time no one else was in sight.
Luckily, he had a cellular phone in his possession and used it to contact his family.
Shortly after, help arrived and the injured Poon was fetched out of the backlands on a make-shift stretcher and taken to the Port Kaituma Hospital where he received medical attention before being flown to the city. He is now a patient in the Male Surgical Ward and is in a stable condition.
