The women need to fight back for the New Year. They must have taken “so much licks” that they can’t take it no more!
This was the affirmation of Attorney at Law and former Chief Magistrate Paul Fung-a-Fat at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday when the case of Shelly Browne was called before Magistrate Faith McGusty.
The prosecution claimed that the 24-year-old mother of three unlawfully assaulted her ‘husband’ Keon Blair on December 29 and December 30, at the North Ruimveldt Squatting Area. They alleged that the act was one which was intended to cause the man actual bodily harm.
The particulars of the charge were not read in court. However, Prosecutor Corporal Seon Blackman, objected to the woman being granted bail and opined that if the woman is granted bail, a more serious charge may be brought before the court.
His objections however, did not deter the lawyer from making an application for bail. Fung-a-Fat said “Just like the song, they can’t take it no more.”
He stated that Browne is currently tending to three children of tender age. The Defence Attorney, in open court, questioned whether the prosecution would like the children to be kept in social welfare for the New Year.
In response to the offence allegedly committed, the Magistrate offered the woman bail in the sum of $20,000 for each offence. The matter was adjourned to January 20.
