A 43 year old man was stabbed to death on Saturday night following an argument with a woman over a $1000. Dead is 43-year old Percival Williams of Hague, West Coast Demerara.
He was stabbed to his chest around 19:00 hours by the woman and he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Leonora Cottage Hospital shortly after.
According to the police, Williams and the suspect who hails from Parika, East Bank Essequibo, had a heated argument over the money which she had allegedly given him to buy a food for her. Police in a statement said that Williams had allegedly converted the $1,000 to his own use instead of buying the food for the woman.
However the dead man’s aunt Lucy Williams gave a totally different version of what led to his death.
She told Kaieteur News via telephone last night that she was contacted by the police and invited to the station that was dealing with the matter.
According to Miss Williams, when she arrived at the Parika Police Station, she saw a young man, who claimed to be an eyewitness to the whole incident.
After giving his statement to the police, the young man told Miss Williams that the woman indeed gave her nephew the money to purchase Chinese food.
However, when Williams, who loads boats at the Parika Stelling, returned with the food and handed it to the woman, she opened the box and said she did not want the food.
“She told him to take it back and he said he cannot. He say the people won’t take it back. Then she tell him she wanted her money back and he said he cannot give it back since he had already purchased the food,” Lucy Williams recalled what the eyewitness had told her.
She stated that the eyewitness said that the woman became annoyed and pulled out a knife and stabbed Williams.
Kaieteur news was told that the woman was leaving the victim at the scene but was admonished by other eyewitnesses who forced her to accompany the mortally wounded man to the hospital.
“He is my baby. I mind he since he was three months old, since his mother died from cancer,” cried Lucy Williams, who added that her nephew was a former member of the Guyana Defence Force.
Kaieteur news understands that the woman was arrested early yesterday morning.
