Thousands of Guyanese packed the Uitvlugt Community Center ground on Saturday, to pay their final respects to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Derrick Josiah.
Josiah received a full military send off as “Guyana’s finest” turned out in their numbers to give their last salutation to the officer, who was also Police Commander of the police ‘A’ Division.
Delivering brief remarks at the funeral service, President Donald Ramotar said that Josiah showed commitment and served his noble profession well.
“In our brother Derrick Josiah’s case, we can console ourselves by saying that he had made a significant contribution to the development of the Guyana Police Force … We will all end up this way one day but we must do all we can do now to serve our community, society and country well.”
Commissioner of Police Leroy Brumell, described Josiah as “a shining example of what a police officer should be…”
“He has departed, but Derrick lived not because he breathe, but lived because he surrendered his being to the people and community which he cherished. He has not died, because there are many of us who became part of his soul and therefore entered in a conspiracy with him for his cause,” Brumell added.
Among the other dignitaries in attendance at the funeral on Saturday were, Leader of Opposition David Grainger, Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee and Army Chief of Staff, Mark Phillips.
Josiah’s sudden passing left the Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a state of shock. He died at a private hospital of a suspected heart attack on December 13.
The Commander’s death was possibly linked to his involvement in an automobile accident last month, where he sustained a broken leg and an injury to his shoulder.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
