He has been living in the Pediatric Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for two years, and celebrating Joshua Moonsammy’s fourth birthday yesterday, was his newfound family at the public health facility.
Personally spearheading and funding the celebration was the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Michael Khan.
The event was also attended by Social Activist, Mark Benschop along with the children who are patients in the ward. They were accompanied by their parents.
Boxes of baby foods were donated to the child by Nigel’s Supermarket and Game Express.
Joshua, who has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy (CP), has been in state care since 2011, and because of his condition, he cannot be placed in a normal children’s home.
CP is a disorder that affects muscle tone, movement, and motor skills (the ability to move in a coordinated and purposeful way). It is usually caused by a slight brain damage that occurs before or during a child’s birth, or during the first three to five years of a child’s life.
Despite his illness, and apart from needing extra physical assistance, Joshua is just like any other child; jolly, and deserving of a home and a loving family this Christmas.
