A 38-year-old passenger was shot at around 29:00 hrs last night in ‘B’ Field, Sophia, after bandits attacked the taxi in which he and two female passengers were travelling.
Desmond Edwards, 38, of South Cummingsburg, was shot in his upper thigh, reportedly while struggling with the robbers.
It is unclear whether the bandits took anything from their victims.
Kaieteur News understands that the passengers were traveling through Sophia when the gunmen stopped the taxi.
A source said that the driver fled, but returned some time after. By then, Edwards had been shot and the bandits had fled.
He then took the wounded passenger to the GPHC.
