Distance athlete, Alika Morgan placed second and third in the Run Barbados Half Marathon
on Sunday and 10km Road Race on Saturday respectively with times of 1:40 in the Half Marathon and 42:06 in the 10km race.
Speaking to Kaieteur Sport yesterday, Morgan explained that she was keeping some energy in reserve for the Half Marathon on Sunday, which is why she did not push herself too much in the 10k race the day before.
“I was keeping something in reserve for the Half Marathon, but I found some difficulty with 3km to go in the race. It was three weeks of competition straight,” Morgan said, adding that the events were her last of the year.
In a statement, she said that she is “okay” with her performances this year at the South American 10km Road Race, Suriname Marathon and the Run Barbados 10k and Half Marathons. She said that she hopes that the National Sport Commission “will take note of my performances for 2013”.
She thanked sponsors Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company, Dr. Roger Luncheon, Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Minister Jenifer Westford, Cummings Electrical, Payless Variety Store and Steve Electrical.
