Two men are hospitalised at the Georgetown Public Hospital after being shot in separate incidents yesterday.
Fenton Duncan, a taxi driver was robbed and shot in the abdomen around 12:25 hrs while at a car wash on Mandela Avenue.
This newspaper was told by Duncan’s wife, Kim, that he has lost one of his kidneys as a result of the gunshot wound he sustained.
And Samuel Daniels was shot around 07:30 hrs yesterday in his left leg by a businessman at Bourda market when he tried to rob the man of his valuables.
Up to press time, Daniels was in the theatre at the health institution undergoing surgery while Duncan was in the theatre’s recovery room.
Police in a statement said that Duncan of Roxanne Burnham Gardens and Sherry Ramroop, 38, were at a car wash on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, when they were held up by a man armed with a handgun.
The release added that the gunman took away the personal jewellery of the two victims during which Duncan, who is a licenced firearm holder, retaliated. He was however shot to his abdomen by the armed man who also took way his firearm and escaped.
The wounded man was rushed to the hospital where he was seen by doctors and was immediately taken to the theatre.
A police source told this newspaper that it will not be difficult to identify Duncan’s shooter because the entire “episode” was caught on camera.
Yesterday, at the car wash, an eyewitness who requested not to be named said that Duncan was at the car wash earlier but left after promising to return later. “He (Duncan) come back and as soon as he park and walk in, a man walk in behind he and start taking off his jewellery,” the eyewitness related.
He added that after the gunman took away Duncan’s jewellery, he turned to a woman who was also in the car wash.
“When he turned to the woman, Duncan took out his gun but the man turn and shoot he,” the eyewitness stressed.
He added that it seems as if Duncan’s attacker followed him to the car wash.
“Everything happened really fast. As soon as he fired the shot, he ran out with the man’s gun too,” the eyewitness stressed.
Kaieteur News was told that the shooter’s accomplice was waiting for him on a CG bike on Mandela Avenue.
Kim Duncan said that her husband’s jewellery is worth more than $1.5M.
