GCC fails to muster AGM quorum
… pushed back to next week
The much heralded Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) has been postponed to next Monday. The meeting failed to attract a simple quorum of 50 members to make the meeting legal.
According to the regulations, the meeting could be adjourned for a week to be held at the same time. That new date is Monday. The withdrawn proposal by New GPC’s Dr. Ranjisinghi ‘Bobby’ Ramroop to acquire the world-renowned Georgetown Cricket Club Ground and the popular Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground, Bourda to construct the proposed Limacol Bourda Stadium is not on the agenda.

However, it could be placed there by a special motion and deferred to a special general meeting at which the entire membership will vote on the issue.
Kaieteur News was told that while over 1500 persons are registered with the club, 50 financial members are necessary for a quorum, but only 26 of the 46 paying members showed up. It was explained, however, that whoever makes the meeting next Monday will carrying on the club’s work.
Although Ramroop has reportedly pulled back the offer – alleging among other things a leak of the “confidential” proposal to this publication, some club members are convinced that it is not the end of the matter. One executive member told Kaieteur News that he will not support a monopoly ownership of the internationally known cricket ground and opined further that the developers, for example the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB), stallholders and other cricket-related outfits affiliated to the ground’ s development should have first preference in any handing over and subsequent ownership of the facilities, while recognizing that indeed, the ground and the pavilion need rehabilitation.
Additionally, mention was made of the prime land on which the cricket club stands.
Ramroop in a November 12, 2013 letter addressed to the President of the Georgetown Cricket Club, proposed to build a US$30M ($6B) stadium on acquiring both the cricket and football ground.
Both the GCC and GFC ground are located in one of the city’s most expensive real pieces of real estate — between Regent Road and North Road and stretching an entire block between the Shiv Chanderpaul Drive and Vlissengen Road.
New GPC proposed to raise the level of the grounds and improve drainage; extend the playing areas in keeping with new regulations to accommodate cricket, football, athletics and other sports; construct a world class restaurant, entertainment and reception facilities and to a build a bigger parking area.
