The No. 69 Vikings ground, Upper Corentyne will come alive this today in what is expected to be the biggest cricketing event of the year in the Upper Corentyne area. The day’s activity, which is being organized by the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) with assistance from the Berbice Cricket Board, will see the four zonal senior teams in Berbice – namely New Amsterdam/Canje, West Berbice, Lower Corentyne and Upper Corentyne go at each other for top honours in the one day 20/20 knockout cricket competition with the final set to be played under flood lights.
The first game starts at 10:00hrs with Upper Corentyne taking on New Amsterdam/Canje in what is expected to be a matchup between two evenly match teams. The second game is set to begin at 14:00hrs and will pit the firepower of West Berbice against a star studded Lower Corentyne line up. The final will start at 18:30hrs under lights with Slow Fire sounds providing the entertainment.
There will also be games for the kids and those who are young at heart. Gate prize will be available, which will be drawn during the interval of the final.
Meanwhile, the UCCA has expressed thanks to several persons/businesses for their contribution in making the event possible. Among them are: Sukhpaul gas Station Services and Business Enterprise with business throughout Berbice ,4R Bearings, Vishnu’s Super Store, Sarfraz Photo Studio and recording centre, La Grill Hotel Restaurant and bar, Ram’s stationery store, A.H & L Kissoon, Hand in Hand Mutual fire Insurance Co. Ltd, New Building Society Ltd, Republic Bank, Mr. H. N. Sugrim, Deckers, No.69 Vikings cricket club, Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Regional Chairman, Region Six David Armogan, Geddes Grant, Countryside TV-19 , Venue Shopping Centre (Avon Store) and Ansa McAl Guyana Limited.
All proceeds from this event will go towards cricket development in the Upper Corentyne. (Samuel Whyte)
