Today at 14:53 hours, ranks of the Coast Guard conducting duties off the Pomeroon River were placed on high alert after a Lima fisherman and his crew of two were attacked and robbed, in the vicinity of the Pomeroon River mouth, Friday night around 22:00 hours.
Owner of the fishing vessel, Sham Narine, said his captain “Lemo” (only named given) called and reported the incident to him.
Narine said that the attackers, who were said to be armed with guns, attacked the Captain, relieving him of a generator and a brand new engine worth $760,000 before fleeing.
The captain and his crew were returning to shore after making their second trip Friday night. Narine said his Captain had left on Tuesday and was destined to return Saturday evening.
The fishermen, Narine added, were unable to identify the pirates since the place was dark but they however managed to recognise the boat which they said had red, white and blue stripes.
Narine, who was attacked previously, has rated this as the most serious attack.
