Statistician Charwayne Walker looks this week at the Windies Under-19 tour to Bangladesh in 1995, even as the current U-19 side head to Bangladesh for their return fixture, he reflects on the performances during that tour.
The first time the West Indies under-19 played under lights was 18 years ago, November 1995, when the Gareth Breese led side toured Bangladesh.
Playing in front of (30,000) fans at the National Stadium in the Capitol Dhaka, the Regional youngsters lost to the Bangladesh under-23 side by six wickets.
The Augustine Logie coached team also suffered losses to the Bangladesh under-19 and the Bangladesh Cricket Board XI. Please note, the West Indies tour management had to register its disapproval with the Bangladesh Cricket Board about facing senior players on the tour. The arrangement was for an under-19 series.
It should be noted that Barbadian All Rounder, Ryan Hurley, who scored two centuries on the Pakistan leg of the tour, was sent home from Karachi for discipline and fitness reasons. Bowling for Bangladesh Cricket Board XI; Naimur Rahman took four for 26 from 10 overs, Salim Shahed 3 for 25. Bangladesh Cricket Board in reply – 182 for 6, winning with four balls to spare. Kaled Mahmud top scored with 48, Naimur Rahman supported with 32.
