City Inn /Intercity Taxi Upper Corentyne 10/10 Inter Primary School cricket competition
The City Inn Suites/ Inter City Taxi Service 10/10 Inter Primary School cricket competition for schools in the Upper Corentyne concluded on Friday at the Crabwood Creek Cricket ground with No. 56 Primary School winning both of their matches to come out with top honours.
No56 Primary first defeated Crabwood Creek Primary by 6 wickets and then returned to defeat Massiah Primary by 60 runs in the final round playoff, which featured the winners of the different zones.
In the first game Crabwood Creek (CWC) Primary batted first and scored 83 for 6 in their allotted 10 overs with Lakhraj Beepat top scoring with 16. Bowling for No. 56 Primary Nicholas Reid took 2 for 4.
No. 56 Primary in reply reached 86 for 4 in 9.4 overs with Nicholas Reid 13 not out. Bowling for CWC Primary Michael Abrahim took 2 wickets.
In the final game, No. 56 Primary batted first and raced to 136 for 4 off their 10 overs with Samuel Massay 51 and Nicholas Reid an unbeaten 44. In reply Massiah Primary were restricted to 76 for 7 in their allotted 10 overs. Bowling for No. 56 Primary, Samuel Massay took 3 for 4 in 2 overs.
The Man of the match award was shared by Nicholas Reid and Samuel Massay, whilst Reid also received a special prize as being the talented young emerging cricketer.
A trophy and a gift certificate value $15,000 was given to the winner No 56 Primary team whilst CWC Primary, Massiah and No. 56 Primary also received a trophy and a gift certificate value $10,000 each for being the winners of their respective zones.
The executives of the UCCA took the opportunity to thank Mr. Krishnand ‘Hemchan’ Jaichand, proprietor of City Inn Suites and Inter City Taxi Services, for coming forward and sponsoring the competition. He stated that next year will be even better. The primary school tournament is aimed at bringing back interest in cricket among the younger generation in the Upper Corentyne area.
