Jeban Crawford of District 15 New Amsterdam overpowered his rivals to win the Boys 800 Meters Open cycle event, while Sheriah Melville of District 13 South Georgetown took the first podium spot in the Girls U-16 800 Meters when the Cycling segment of the Digicel National Schools Championships continued yesterday
at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
Akeem Arthur of District 10 Upper Demerara\Kwakwani placed second in the 800M Boys open and Elijah Bijadder of District 6 Corentyne finished third. Okel Samuels of District 4 East Coast Demerara copped silver in the Girls U-16 800M while Allesia Grant of District 3 West Demerara grabbed silver.
The Girls 800M open was taken by Marica Dick of District 15 followed by Crystal Lambert of District 6 and Sasha Lowe of District 5 West Coast Berbice. Romello Crawford of District 6 won the Boys U-16 800M, Antonio Sanichar of District 4 took second and Andrew Holder of District 12 East Georgetown third.
The Boys U-14 800M title was taken by Tyresse Souvenir of District 11 North Georgetown while Raphael Miles of District 14 East Bank Demerara and Stephen Isaacs of District 12 took second and third places respectively. Cassy Williams of District 14 chalked gold in the Girls U-14 800M, Tiana Barker of District 12 claimed silver and Kezia Browne of District 7 Bartica took bronze.
Tarique Williams of District 10 won the Boys U-16 2000M and Andrew Hicks of District 6 placed second. The boys open 3000M went to Andrea Green of District 6; Toshawanna Doris of District 11 won the Girls open 2000M.
Jeban Crawford carted off the Boys open 5000M event in a time of 13 minutes 03.5 seconds, Michael Anthony of District 11 placed second in 13 minutes 03.7 seconds and Romario Samuels of District 4 finished third in 13 minutes 04.2 seconds. Doris crowned a fine day by winning the Girls open 3000M in 9 minutes 21.2 seconds ahead of Niomi Alsopp of District 10 with 9 minutes 41.8 seconds and Sasha James of District 12 who clocked 9 minutes 42.3 seconds respectively. The championships continue today.
