Jerrick’s Mining Establishment of Aranka, Cuyuni, yesterday purchased and donated tickets for students on the East Coast, who will attend matches in the Chico Kashif and Shanghai Secondary Schools football tournament on one of the days matches will be staged at the Buxton ground.
Marjorie Jerrick, Chief Executive Officer of the firm, assisted by her daughter Kenisha, handed over 500 tickets to Kashif Muhammad and Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major yesterday. The principals of Jerrick’s Mining expressed pleasure at being able to support the children, ensuring they get a chance to witness the game for that day.
The K&S officials expressed joy at the gesture from the Jerricks. They noted that several other business persons along with Prime Minister Samuel Hinds have also either pledged or donated tickets for youths attending the games at various venues.
The tournament starts December 8 and the schools are battling for prizes: $1.2M, $750,000, $500,000 and $250,000 for the top four teams. 75% of those monies will go to a project at the respective schools, while the remaining 25% will go in the form of gift vouchers, redeemable as several stores around the city, to the players for school supplies and or sports gear.
