The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall had a colourful look yesterday when the Digicel\National Schools Table Tennis championships continued with over 150 students from schools across Guyana battling for supremacy.
Mae’s A and Bishops High have booked their places in the semifinals after recording convincing victories in the quarter final games in the Novice division, while Marian Academy and Mae’s A also secured their semifinal spots in the U-13 segment.
Mae’s A trounced Marian Academy 3-0 and Ash Educational Institute 3-0 to top group 1, Marian Academy beat Ash Educational Institute 3-0 to take second place.
Bishops High defeated St. Roses High B, Ash Educational Institute and Business School 3-0 each to take the honours in group 3. St. Roses High B placed second with 3-0 wins over Ash Educational Institute and Business School, while Ash Educational Institute finished third with a 3-1 victory over Business school who ended in the cellar position.
St. Roses A top group 2 with 3-0 wins over Central High, Ash Educational Institute B and Business School B. Ash Educational Institute beat Central High 3-1 and Business School B 3-0 to claim second spot. Central High ended in third spot after a 3-0 win over Business School B.
In the Under 13 division Marian Academy took the honours in group 1 A after overcoming Bishop’s High and Central High 3-0, Bishop’s ended in the cellar position after going down to Central High 3-2.
Mae’s A topped group 2 with 3-0 victories over Marian Academy B and Ash Educational Institute. Marian Academy placed second with a 3-0 over Ash Educational Institute.
Queens College hammered Mae’s B 3-0 and St. Stanislaus 3-0 to take top place in group 3, while Mae’s B beat St. Stanislaus 3-0 to finished second.
North Georgetown Primary are favoured to win the U-11 title after registering a 3-0 win over Mae’s B and Rama Krishna 3-2 in the round robin play off on Friday. North Georgetown will battle Mae’s A in their final game.
Bishops High led by Chelsea Edghill and Jamaal Duff overcame Jacome Mitchell and Kevin Anderson of Central High 3-0 in the U-18 division. Queens College A beat West Demerara 3-0, Mae’s A defeated Ash Educational Institute 3-0, St. Joseph got he better of Ash Educational Institute A 3-0.
The championships continue today.
