The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) has embarked on a number of developmental programmes. Apart from constructing an indoor facility, the club will be sending their Coach Gavin Nedd on a promotional tour to the United States.
Fly Jamaica Airline has thrown their support behind the club sponsoring
the airfare for Nedd, their commitment was formalized when they presented a replica of the boarding pass yesterday at a simple ceremony held at the company’s office at Ogle.
Nedd, who departed Guyana last evening is expected to visit the Atlantis Cricket Club where he will interact with a number of former national players to seek ways and means of developing DCC. Nedd will also start the ground work for a Tour that will involve a DCC team while also negotiating for coaching equipment.
Speaking at the ceremony, Communications Manager of Fly Jamaica, Junior Horatio said that sport is an important vehicle for the development of Guyana and by supporting cricket which is the country’s number one sport they will be making a contribution to Guyana’s development.
DCC President Alfred Mentore said that Nedd is one of the club’s most successful coaches to date adding that the trip augurs well for the development of DCC. He thanked Nicola Pierre, Fly Jamaica and parents of the young members of the club who also assisted in this venture.
