Deputy Superintendent Alwin Wilson and Assistant Superintendent Michael Kingston were both called as witnesses when the murder trial for Cyon Collier also known as “Picture Boy” continued yesterday.
Collier is accused of killing brothers, Ray Walcott and Carl Andrews, on September 23, 2006, at the Victoria Four Corner, East Coast Demerara. The matter is currently being heard before Justice Navindra Singh.
Senior State Prosecutor Judith Mursalin is presenting the case, while Collier is being represented by Attorney at Law Lyndon Amsterdam.
The two officers testified yesterday as a voir dire (trial within a trial) commenced. This is done in the absence of the jury. The voir dire is being conducted to determine the admissibility of certain statements pertaining to the case. At the close of the session yesterday Kingston was still being cross examined by counsel Amsterdam. The matter is due to be continued today.
On Friday the prosecution called two witnesses as the trial commenced. The first witness Geoffrey Andrews, the father of the victims, was called to the witness box. According to the father, he received a telephone call on the day of the incident and went to the area where he saw his sons lying in a pool of blood.
He went on to state that on September 25, 2006 at the Georgetown Public Hospital, he identified the bodies. The second witness was Patrick Knights.
Last December, Collier was ordered to face a retrial after the 22-day murder trial concluded with a hung jury. The matter was previously brought before Justice Diana Insanally.
