The B Division police lead by Commander, Assistant Commissioner Brian Joseph, has thrown their full support behind the Flying Ace Cycle Club ‘Track Attack’ cycling event on today at the Blairmont Community Centre.
Commander Joseph took time out of his busy schedule on Friday to present a cheque to coach of the FACC Randolph Roberts at a simple presentation ceremony held in his office at B Division Headquarters, New Amsterdam.
Mr. Joseph in doing the presentation, stated that it is appropriate that the police join or support any fight that tackle the issue of Domestic Violence which is a serious issue and is eating away at society. The issue of Domestic Violence he said is getting out of hand and it is a good gesture on the part of the club to organise their event with the aim of tackling the issue of Domestic Violence.
“The police has be involved in almost every aspect of activity that takes place, be it good or bad and although we have our ‘action plan’ the Guyana Police Force is willing to work along with any organisations to help solve societal ills such as Domestic Violence. That is why when I was approach by Roberts for assistance I hadn’t much difficulty in giving my full support and that of the division,” He stated.
Roberts in response thanked Mr. Joseph wholeheartedly for his willing response and pledged his and the club’s full support to the force wherever possible in the enhancement of their work. He also congratulated the commander for the good work that he has been doing so far against great odds in the division.
Apart from cycling, the day is expected to feature a number of other events including athletics, football, cricket, volleyball and a several novelty events. The event is expected to attract the cream of the county’s riders and runners most of whom are presently preparing for the National School Athletics and Cycling Championships. Participants are expected to trek from all over Berbice including New Amsterdam, Canje, West Berbice and Corentyne and a day of keen competition is anticipated.
While there will be events for Open riders, juniors, juveniles, BMX, veterans, school boys, starters, females and school girls where the cyclist will compete against each other over various distances, there will also be flats races of various, categories, distances and age groups. Starting time is 10:00 hrs.
Prizes will be given to the successful participants including, cash and trophies.
A number of businesses have contributed towards the staging of the event. Among them are A. Ally’s and Sons, Hand in Hand, Berbice Bridge Company, Elwin Jones, Water Chris Hotel, Courts Guyana Inc, GEB Security, Attorney at Law Mursaline Bacchus, Assistant Commissioner Brian Joseph, Ganesh Singh, Watterson Catering Services, Water Chris Hotel, Campton Sparman, Lloyd and Kim’s Fashions, Businessman John Lewis, Art Sawmill, Darry Tulsi Construction, Alphonso Business Establishment, Feroze Grocery, among others.
Commander Joseph among others, are expected to be on hand to help with the distribution of the prizes.
Coordinator Randolph Roberts stated that the club over the years has noted the increase in the spread of the societal ills in the community and has decided to come forward to assist in the fight to help rid the society of this plague. (Samuel Whyte)
