I hereby refer to the above caption as it relates to the publication of an article captioned “Kashif and Shanghai Court action threat without merit”- Says GFA President Vernon Burnett, S.N (10.10.13), wherein the President is quoted as saying, “The GFA has been given a mandate to plan, organise and develop football in Georgetown and by extension in Guyana”.
Editor, while I cannot vouch for Guyana, what I do know the established fact is: Weak/Poor Clubs and Associations Structures automatically lead to a Weak/Poor Federation Structure”!
The GFA President is now in his third year at the helm of the once most powerful and vibrant association and with absolutely nothing tangible to show for proper planning, organising and developing the sport of association football, in Burnett’s words” a mandate”.
Editor, the next best option for the individual and the most practical solution is his immediate resignation. This comes against the backdrop of an ongoing absence of youth competitions at the Under-11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 21 levels.
And there can be no excuses for this continuous failure over three years. That has deprived youths of being graduates i.e. U-11, 13 over two years, likewise the other divisions! It is beyond any stretch of imagination that youths are being deprived of developing their skills through competitive and organised football, coordinated by the GFA.
The time is now ripe for the clubs to say “enough is enough” and institute the relevant constitutional clause, in convening an “Emergency General Meeting”. Whereas the only item on the Agenda must be a “Vote of no Confidence” in the individual, due to his lack of foresight and vision for the sport’s development, and definitely not foregoing the entire executive en-bloc. There has been poor fixtures compilation; absence of quality competitions reports; poor marketing of football as a marketable product and most importantly neglect of the nursery. That within the corresponding period the administration of the sport has gotten from bad to worse!
When all the factors are taken into consideration the reality of court action has merit, since the un-even playing field surface favours the ultimate destruction of 23 years of hard work and many sleepless nights, towards achieving meaningful success of a competition!
