A keen battle is expected tomorrow when two giant-killers, Bermine and West Berbice, clash in the final of the 2013 Universal DVD First Division T20 Cricket Competition at Albion.
It is not easy to predict which team would emerge as champions here, as both of them have strength in different departments. Bermine for their part have a more recognized batting line up with the likes of the in-form former national opening batsman, Shemroy Barrington, who has so far scored 172 crucial runs in three innings; an average of 86 runs per innings, Berbice opening batsman Anthony D’Andrade, former Guyana under-19 all-rounder Joemal LaFleur, who represented Berbice recently, Devon Clements and Romario Shepherd, Keion DeJesus who scored a timely 39 in the semi-final against Rose Hall Town, former Demerara all-rounder Damien Vantull and Hakeem Hinds.
Their spin attack, which has choked up some teams recently, consists of off-spinners Clements, LaFleur and Kevin Pellew as well as left-arm spinner Vantull, while the not-so-easy-to-score-off pacers will come from Shepherd, Mark Jackman, Orlando Tanner and former Guyana under-15 pacer Nial Smith.
The Bermine batsmen will have to tread warily against West Berbice’s four-pronged pace attack, their main strength. They will be led by current Guyana fast man Keon Joseph, former West Indies pacer, Brandon Bess, former Guyana under-19 cricketer Roun Johnson and Wrendel Bobb. Medium pacer Keith Fraser has picked up crucial wickets recently. They also have one of the most frugal bowlers in Berbice cricket, Berbice off-spinner Krishnadat Ramoo as well as another off-spinner Andrew Dutchin.
Their not-so-impressive batting line up, which can however be good enough for this format, will be led by the hard-hitting Fraser, former Berbice batsman Artley Bailey, former Guyana under-19 batsman Sherwin McPherson, former Berbice under-19 batsman Raffel Estriado, Dutchin and even Ramoo.
