A 50-year-old man who was playing with a gun yesterday accidentally pulled the trigger and shot himself in the hip. According to police sources the man was identified as Laluni Street resident, Morris Porter. He has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
However, according to some sources, Porter could not have been transferred from the Accident and Emergency to the Male Surgical Ward since there were no beds available.
Kaieteur News was told that the incident happened shortly after 13:00hrs. This newspaper was told that ranks were on patrol on Craig Street, Campbellville, Georgetown, when Porter, who is a friend of one of the police ranks, went up to the vehicle and started talking to his friend. According to sources he pulled at his firearm. The rank tried to secure his firearm; a round went off accidentally and wounded Porter.
