Star Party Rentals confirmed its collaboration with the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) to stage the Junior National Indoor Hockey Championships for schools and clubs which will run from October 18-20, at the National Gymnasium.
Yesterday, during a simple presentation ceremony which was held at the Company’s Head Office on Craig Street, Campbellville, Manager Pheona Jones handed over the sponsorship cheque to national hockey player Tiffany Solomon in the presence of fellow staffer Kesheka Washington and GHB Vice-President Ivor Thompson.
Thompson, responding to the gesture on behalf of the Board, thanked Managing Director Lennox Cush and the Company for assisting in the further development of the sport, adding that it is extremely important that the junior players get an opportunity to showcase their talent in competition.
Thompson promised that the GHB will ensure that the usually high standard of organisation and discipline that are associated with hockey is exhibited throughout the competition.
The categories to be contested will range from Under-13, U-16 and U-21 in both Boys and Girls Divisions and action commences on Friday with play in the U-21 category, starting at 17:30 hrs.
Play resumes the following day from 10:00hrs and runs until 18:30 hrs with the final day of competition scheduled for Sunday.
Among the schools slated to participate are North Ruimveldt Multilateral, Christ Church, Marian Academy, Queen’s College, St. Stanislaus College and St. John’s College, while GCC, Old Fort and Hikers are also expected to field teams.
